It is the time of year for school and district budgeting and accountability! Earlier this month, CDF-CA co-hosted our second forum with Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) and other youth-serving organizations to increase parent and community engagement in the district budgeting process.
Over the next couple of years, there will be four more forums to educate the community about the Local Control Accountability Plan which requires school districts to engage with parents and community members to develop a plan to ensure the needs of all students are met and improve student achievement. These workshops were a part of a settlement of a complaint filed against LBUSD that alleged misuse of Local Control Funding Formula funds. This is also a key work in progress as we advocate to increase education equity, not just in terms of funding, but also in terms of decision making power.
CDF-CA looks forward to supporting parents, students, and stakeholders as they continue their dialogue and advocacy to shape LBUSD’s budget this year and in the future.
