Cadonna Dory is director of communications for the Children’s Defense Fund–California. Cadonna role is to create, implement and oversee communications to effectively describe and promote CDF-CA programs and policies.
Prior to joining CDF-CA, Cadonna worked on programs and communications for Social Action Partners, an organization dedicated to helping others build capacity to strengthen the nonprofit infrastructure in low-income communities. There, she helped develop a communications strategy for Building Healthy Communities-South Los Angeles, a 10-year initiative of The California Endowment. Cadonna worked closely with 30+ organizations in South Los Angeles, often assisting organizations with media relations efforts. Her knowledge of media comes from 10 years of working as a journalist for organizations like The Associated Press, The Arizona Republic and The Press-Enterprise. At the latter publications, she covered children and education issues.
Cadonna has a Master’s in Communications Management from the University of Southern California with a focus in strategic communications and marketing. Her time at USC culminated with a well-researched thesis on how essential components of a strategic communications plan can impact the effectiveness and efficiency of nonprofits. Cadonna received her Bachelor’s in Journalism from Arizona State University and lives in Los Angeles.
